Hit-and-Run Incident Leaves One Dead and Another Critical in Anahuac, TX

On February 5, 2024, at approximately 2:30 p.m., law enforcement responded to a distress call regarding two unresponsive individuals on the roadside of State Highway 61 near Barrow-White Road. Chambers County Sheriff’s Deputies and Texas Department of Public Safety Troopers arrived at the scene to find one white female deceased and another female in critical condition, both lying along the side of the roadway.

Initial investigations suggest that a vehicle traveling southbound on SH 61 veered off the roadway, striking the individuals who were out exercising. The driver of the vehicle fled the scene and remains at large. The critically injured female was life-flighted to Memorial Hermann Hospital for urgent medical attention.

Authorities have identified the suspect vehicle as likely a Chevrolet Silverado or GMC Sierra model from the years 2019 to 2024. The vehicle is expected to be missing its entire passenger side mirror.
