In a late-night incident on Tuesday, January 30, 2024, Mont Belvieu Police Department (MBPD) patrol officers engaged in a pursuit that ultimately led to the arrest of two individuals.

At approximately 10:30 p.m., MBPD officers identified a stolen vehicle from Crosby, TX, traveling on State Highway 146 in Mont Belvieu. Initial attempts to stop the vehicle on SH 146 were unsuccessful, as the driver accelerated away upon officers’ approach.

The pursuit extended into Liberty County, where spike strips were deployed to disable the stolen vehicle, forcing it to come to a halt. On-site, officers apprehended the juvenile passenger, while the adult male driver, identified as 17-year-old Denell Williams of Crosby, fled into a nearby wooded area.

Effective collaboration with law enforcement partners, including Dayton Police Department, Texas Department of Public Safety-Highway Patrol, DPS Air Support helicopter, and Liberty County Sheriff’s Office K-9 unit, swiftly led to the containment and capture of the fleeing driver.

Williams faces charges of Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle, Evading Arrest in a Motor Vehicle, and Possession of Marijuana. After processing at MBPD, he was booked into the Chambers County Jail. The 16-year-old juvenile, whose charges are pending, was released to a family member.
