High-Speed Chase Ends in Arrest and Weapon Discovery in Houston

On Saturday, November 18, 2023, at approximately 1:08 AM, Precinct 8 Deputy Morgan from Constable Phil Sandlin’s Office observed a vehicle speeding on Edgebrook Dr near Hobby Airport. Acting swiftly, Deputy Morgan caught up to the vehicle, witnessing a bag being thrown from the passenger side. Attempting to initiate a traffic stop near Theta St., the driver failed to comply, initiating a pursuit.

During the chase, the vehicle disregarded multiple stop signs and collided with a parked vehicle in a residential driveway. Undeterred, the driver fled on foot. In response, Deputy Morgan deployed K9 Duke, resulting in the successful apprehension of the driver, identified as 20-year-old Richard Herrera.

Upon detaining three passengers, a subsequent search of the vehicle uncovered a handgun. Further investigation revealed that the firearm belonged to one of the passengers, identified as 19-year-old Jorge Alberto Sosa.

The Harris County District Attorney’s Office was promptly contacted and accepted charges against Herrera for Evading Arrest/Detention with Vehicle, with a set bond of $100. Sosa faced charges of Unlawful Carry of a Weapon, with an identical bond of $100.
