Harris County Sheriff’s Office Releases Footage of November 7, 2023 Officer Involved Shooting

The Harris County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) has fulfilled its commitment to transparency and accountability by releasing body-worn and dashboard camera footage related to a critical incident that occurred on November 7, 2023. According to HCSO policy, relevant audio and video information concerning a critical incident is shared within 45 days of its occurrence.

The incident is currently under investigation by the Sheriff’s Office Homicide Division, and the released video content is considered preliminary. In line with standard procedures, the Harris County District Attorney’s Office is conducting an independent investigation, especially given the potential use of deadly force by a deputy.

The Sheriff’s Office Internal Affairs Division is also actively involved, conducting an additional investigation. The results of this administrative inquiry will be presented to the Sheriff’s Administrative Disciplinary Committee, which will determine whether the deputies’ actions align with departmental policies and procedures.

Materials released to the public include the body-worn and dash camera videos of one deputy and the body-worn camera video of a deputy K9 handler. However, in adherence to state law and to preserve the integrity of the ongoing investigation, certain information in the videos and audio has been redacted.
