Harris County Deputy Injured After Being Hit While Assisting Stranded Motorist

HOUSTON, TX – A Harris County Constable Precinct 7 deputy was injured early Thursday morning after being struck by a distracted driver while assisting a stranded motorist on the Sam Houston Toll Road.

Around 6:45 a.m. on November 6, 2025, the deputy stopped on the right shoulder of the toll road near Cullen Boulevard to help a motorist whose white Lexus GS350 had broken down. The deputy requested a tow truck through the Toll Road Incident Response Team and blocked the far-right lane to protect the stranded driver and technician as the vehicle was being loaded.

As the scene was being cleared, a 2024 Chevy Silverado driver failed to slow down or move over, striking the deputy’s patrol vehicle. The impact caused the truck to flip over, trapping the driver inside. Deputies at the scene immediately began rescue efforts until the Houston Fire Department arrived to assist with the extraction and provide medical aid.

Both the driver and the deputy were transported to Memorial Hermann Southwest Hospital. The driver is in stable condition, while the deputy sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

Officials say this is the second Precinct 7 vehicle hit in less than a week while assisting motorists on Houston-area roadways. On November 3, another deputy’s patrol car was struck on the Eastex Freeway by a driver who failed to slow down for an emergency vehicle.

Constable Precinct 7 officials are reminding drivers of Texas’ Move Over/Slow Down Law, which requires motorists to move over a lane or slow to 20 mph below the speed limit when approaching emergency vehicles with activated lights.

“These Move Over laws are in place for a reason,” the department said in a statement. “They save lives. Please pay attention, slow down, and give first responders the space they need to keep everyone safe.”
