Fourth Suspect Charged with Capital Murder in March Fatal Shooting

Houston police have arrested and charged a fourth suspect, J’lon Dakarai Griffin, 19, with capital murder in connection with the fatal shooting of 18-year-old Miguel “Mickey” Gonzalez Jr. The incident occurred on March 1, at approximately 2:10 p.m., in the courtyard of an apartment complex at 8301 Willow Place Drive.
Griffin is charged in the 185th State District Court. Previously, Andres Garcia, 20, and Joshua Richards, 17, were also charged with capital murder in the 176th State District Court. Additionally, a 16-year-old male suspect has been referred to Harris County Juvenile Probation authorities on a capital murder charge.
HPD Homicide Division Sergeant B. Roberts and Detective J. Wallschlaeger reported that patrol officers initially responded to the scene and found Gonzalez unresponsive with multiple gunshot wounds. Houston Fire Department paramedics pronounced him deceased.
Further investigation revealed that two other males, one later identified as Garcia, were transported by private vehicle to a local hospital with stable gunshot wounds.
Detectives determined that Miguel Gonzalez Jr. was lured to the apartment complex under the pretense of purchasing items from the suspects. Upon his arrival, he was robbed at gunpoint before being fatally shot.
Garcia, Richards, and the juvenile male were all arrested and charged on March 28 for their roles in the shooting. Griffin was identified as an additional suspect through further investigation and was arrested and charged on Tuesday, June 3.
