Four Arrested in Attempted Theft of $14,000 in Landscaping Equipment from Shenandoah Hotel Lot

In the early hours of September 19, 2024, a Shenandoah Police Department officer thwarted a theft attempt involving $14,000 worth of landscaping equipment. Around 1:00 a.m., the officer observed a suspicious SUV parked near a truck and trailer loaded with equipment, including two zero-turn mowers, in a hotel parking lot in the 18800 block of David Memorial Drive.

Several males were attempting to steal the trailer by attaching it to their SUV when they realized the officer was present. One suspect surrendered immediately, while three others fled on foot. Shenandoah PD officers, with assistance from Oak Ridge North Police Department and deputies from the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO), initiated a search for the fleeing suspects. An MCSO deputy quickly deployed a drone, which helped locate two suspects hiding in a nearby wooded area. The third suspect was later apprehended by another deputy.

The suspects were identified as:

  • 33-year-old William Jones from Houston
  • 37-year-old Terrell Modelist from Houston
  • 45-year-old Derrick Johnson from Houston
  • 29-year-old Tyrell Fredrick from Willis

All four were charged with felony theft. In addition, Modelist, Jones, and Fredrick were charged with evading arrest on foot. Johnson, Fredrick, and Modelist had active warrants for their arrest.

Shenandoah Police Chief Troye Dunlap praised the proactive efforts of his officers and the support from local agencies, stating, “The partnerships we share with surrounding agencies make positive outcomes like these possible. We’re always grateful for their assistance.”
