Former Texas State Trooper Sentenced to 14 Years for Child Indecency

Former Texas State Trooper Andrew Smith has been sentenced to 14 years in prison for Indecency with a Child, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton announced.
Smith, 32, pleaded guilty on May 1, 2025, to one count of Indecency with a Child by Contact. The charges stemmed from a report in January 2021 by a 14-year-old victim who alleged multiple acts of abuse. At the time of the offenses, Smith was employed as a State Trooper with the Texas Department of Public Safety, a position he resigned from after the victim came forward. The victim, now 18, bravely testified in court about the abuse she suffered when she was under 14.
“The sexual abuse of a child is one of the most tragic and disgusting crimes, and those responsible for such heinous acts will be punished to the full extent of the law,” said Attorney General Paxton.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant Attorneys General Erika Hime and Elizabeth Mireles with the Office of the Attorney General, at the invitation of Kleberg County District Attorney John Hubert.
