Former San Jacinto Deputy Indicted for Stalking, Fired From Sheriff’s Office

COLDSPRING, Texas — A former San Jacinto County Sheriff’s Office employee has been indicted on a felony stalking charge and terminated from his position, officials said.
Nathan Deweese was indicted by a Trinity County grand jury on a charge of stalking, a third-degree felony under Texas law. The indictment alleges Deweese engaged in a course of conduct directed at an individual between August and November 2025 that caused fear and distress.
At the time of the alleged offense, Deweese was employed with the San Jacinto County Sheriff’s Office. Officials said he was placed on administrative leave earlier this year after an internal review and later reassigned to a reduced rank due to policy violations.
Following notification of the indictment, Deweese was relieved of duty and his employment was terminated effective immediately, according to the sheriff’s office.
Authorities emphasized that an indictment is not a finding of guilt but indicates a grand jury determined there was sufficient evidence for the case to proceed through the court system.
Officials said the decision to terminate Deweese’s employment was based on the severity of the charge and the agency’s responsibility to maintain public trust.
The case will now move forward through the judicial process.
