Fatal Single-Vehicle Collision Claims Life of El Paso Resident after Overcorrection Incident

On Friday, December 15, the Special Traffic Investigations unit (STI) responded to a request for assistance regarding a single-vehicle collision at the 4200 block of Alameda. The investigation revealed that 52-year-old Fernando Gutierrez of El Paso was traveling eastbound when he encountered a curve in the roadway. Gutierrez failed to negotiate the curve, driving up onto it. Evidence at the scene suggests that Gutierrez overcorrected his vehicle, leading to a loss of control. The truck began to roll, and due to not wearing a seatbelt, Gutierrez was ejected from the vehicle.

Emergency services promptly transported Gutierrez to a local hospital with serious injuries. On December 18, 2023, STI investigators were informed by the medical examiner’s office that Gutierrez had succumbed to his injuries and was declared deceased.
