Fatal Shooting at Crossroad Valley Apartments Ruled an Act of Self-Defense by El Paso Police

On September 4th, 2023, at around 12:49 a.m., local law enforcement responded to a shooting incident at the Crossroad Valley Apartments, specifically at 260 McClintock. Upon arrival, officers discovered two individuals, one of whom was administering first aid to the other.

The person rendering aid was identified as 27-year-old Isaiah James Borquez from West El Paso, while the injured individual was identified as 21-year-old Charles Edward Marin from Central El Paso. Marin had sustained a gunshot wound and was lying on the ground.

Marin was transported to a nearby hospital for medical treatment, but succumbed to his injuries. In response to the situation, the Crimes Against Persons Unit was summoned to oversee the ensuing investigation.

As the investigation unfolded, it was revealed that Marin had been spending the night at his former girlfriend’s apartment, and an argument had erupted between them. During the course of the dispute, the female resident requested that Marin vacate her premises. In response, the woman sought refuge at Borquez’s residence.

Subsequently, a physical altercation between Marin and Borquez took place outside the apartment. Marin attempted to forcibly enter the apartment, prompting Borquez to discharge a firearm in an act of self-defense. Following the shooting, Borquez provided initial medical assistance to Marin.

At this time, no charges have been filed in connection with the incident. However, the case is slated for review by the District Attorney’s Office for further evaluation and potential legal action.
