Fatal Crash on Eastex Freeway After Driver Suffers Medical Emergency

Houston Police are investigating a fatal crash that occurred at around 7:10 p.m. on Tuesday (March 5) at 9800 Eastex Freeway (North U.S. Highway 59) service road, located in the Eastex-Jensen area.

The victim, a 43-year-old woman, was driving a black Nissan Altima northbound on the service road when she lost control of the vehicle and collided with a wall on the west side of the service road. The Altima then veered eastbound and slid down the embankment into the bayou. Emergency services responded swiftly, with Houston Fire Department paramedics transporting the woman to Ben Taub General Hospital.

The woman was pronounced deceased on March 6th. The identity of the victim is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

Authorities believe the woman may have experienced a medical emergency just before the accident. The investigation into the incident remains ongoing.
