Fatal Crash in Harris County: Driver Charged with Intoxication Manslaughter

In the early hours of Sunday, February 11, 2024, a collision occurred at the intersection of 10000 Veterans Memorial Drive and Wilshire Park Drive (Charleston Gardens area), prompting a response from the Harris County Sheriff’s Office. Upon arrival at around 12:50 AM, District 1 patrol units encountered the two-vehicle crash at the scene.

Deputies found an adult male involved in the crash showing no signs of life. Vehicular Crimes Investigators were dispatched to assess the situation. Their preliminary investigation revealed that a white Kia Sonata had been traveling southbound on Veterans Memorial Drive prior to the incident.

A white Chevrolet Silverado, failing to yield the right of way during a left turn, collided with the driver’s side of the Kia Sonata. The driver of the Kia Sonata, identified as the deceased individual, bore the brunt of the impact.

Subsequent inquiries uncovered troubling details about the driver of the Chevrolet Silverado, who exhibited signs of impairment at the scene. Further investigation concluded that the individual had been driving under the influence, ultimately causing the collision that claimed the life of another.

The driver of the Chevrolet Silverado was consequently charged with Intoxication Manslaughter and incarcerated in the Harris County Jail. As authorities continue to investigate the incident, the case remains under the purview of the Harris County Sheriff’s Office Vehicular Crimes Division.
