Fatal Crash in Austin Takes Life of 76-Year-Old Driver

A tragic accident occurred on Sunday, December 17, 2023, at around 7:47 a.m., when the Austin Police Department (APD) responded to a collision between a sedan and a pick-up truck in the 3800 block of E SH 71 WB, near the 130 Toll Road.

According to the preliminary investigation conducted by APD, both vehicles were traveling west on SH 71 towards the 130 Toll Road. The pick-up truck occupied the left lane, while the sedan was in either the center lane or the right lane. Unexpectedly, the sedan made a left turn in front of the oncoming truck. The collision resulted in the truck striking the sedan’s driver’s door.

The driver of the sedan, identified as 76-year-old Joan M. Cooper, was transported to a local hospital. Ms. Cooper succumbed to her injuries on January 7, 2024.
