Fatal Bicycle Collision Under Investigation in Harris County

On Tuesday, February 27, 2024, tragedy struck on the 15800 block of FM529 in Harris County, Texas, as an unidentified black male lost his life in a collision involving two vehicles.

At approximately 10:21 PM, the unidentified male was riding a bicycle on a small raised concrete strip dividing the eastbound and westbound lanes of FM529. Syed Bukhari was driving a maroon 2018 Toyota Rav4 in the left eastbound lane when the unidentified male veered into his path and was struck by the front right of the vehicle.

Following the initial collision, Bukhari pulled over into the far right lane. Meanwhile, a second vehicle, a red Honda HR-V driven by Va Troung, approached in the left eastbound traffic lane. Despite attempts to avoid the collision, Troung’s vehicle collided with the unidentified male and the bicycle, causing damage to the front right of his vehicle and the undercarriage.

Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene and provided treatment to the unidentified male. However, despite their efforts, the individual succumbed to their injuries. They were airlifted to Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center via Life Flight, where they were pronounced deceased.

Both drivers, Bukhari and Troung, remained at the scene and cooperated with authorities. No signs of intoxication were observed, and both were later released.

The Harris County Sheriff’s Office Vehicular Crimes Division is conducting an investigation into the incident to determine the circumstances leading to the collision.

The identity of the deceased individual has not been disclosed pending notification of next of kin, and the investigation into the incident is ongoing.
