Escaped Inmate Recaptured Near El Paso Park After Fleeing Hospital

EL PASO, TX – A multi-agency search effort led to the capture of escaped inmate David Oswaldo Parra Jr., 36, on Wednesday morning, July 9, after he fled while receiving medical treatment at University Medical Center.
At approximately 8:30 a.m., a deputy from the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office assigned to UMC was notified by a Brown County Deputy about the escape. Law enforcement agencies, including the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office, El Paso Police Department, Texas Tech Police Department, El Paso ISD Police, Deputy Constables from Precincts 1 and 2, and Texas Department of Public Safety Troopers, immediately responded.
Jefferson High School was placed on lockdown as a precaution during the search. Authorities located Parra at Washington Park near Alameda Avenue and Washington Street at approximately 9:48 a.m., and he was taken into custody without incident.
Parra now faces additional charges, including Escape from Custody.
