El Paso Woman Arrested After Fabricating Home Invasion and Assault Report

EL PASO, TX – On September 9, 2025, the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office responded to a home in the 900 block of Stamfordham Drive after a woman reported that an unknown man had forced entry and assaulted her.
Deputies canvassed the area and reviewed surveillance footage but found no evidence supporting the claim. As the investigation continued, detectives discovered inconsistencies in the woman’s statements and evidence suggesting the incident had been fabricated.
Investigators later determined that 52-year-old Maribel Wong had sent text messages she claimed were from the suspect. When confronted, Wong admitted to making up the story.
She was arrested on October 21, 2025, and booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility on one count of False Report to a Peace Officer. Her bond was set at $4,000.
“When someone files a false report, it takes valuable time and resources away from real victims and ongoing investigations,” said Sheriff Ugarte. “The Sheriff’s Office reminds the public that filing a false report is a serious offense and will not be tolerated.”
