Officers responded to a family disturbance call involving a weapon at the residence. According to reports, Gallegos, who was intoxicated, had threatened his girlfriend’s family with a handgun. Officers successfully evacuated the family members from the residence before attempting to negotiate with Gallegos.

After refusing to open the gate, Gallegos emerged from the house and, after a brief interaction, fired at the officers. The officers returned fire, but no injuries were reported. Gallegos retreated back into the house, prompting a standoff that ended approximately an hour later when SWAT officers apprehended him without further incident.

Gallegos is currently held on charges related to the incident, with the case under investigation by the HPD Special Investigations Unit and Internal Affairs Division. Officers involved in the shooting, identified as J. Luna, D. Zhu, and Probationary Officer B. Martel, have been confirmed unharmed and are assigned to the Northeast Patrol Division.
