Driver Dies After Car Plunges 34 Feet from Overpass in Northeast Harris County

On Friday, June 27, 2025, at approximately 7:54 a.m., Harris County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a 911 call reporting a heavily damaged vehicle and an unresponsive driver near the 12400 block of Homestead Road.

Upon arrival, deputies located a red 2015 Hyundai Sonata that had sustained significant damage. The driver, identified as Joseph Leblanc Jr., was found with no signs of life and was pronounced deceased at 8:15 a.m. by Harris County Emergency Corps EMS.

Preliminary investigation revealed that Leblanc had been traveling northbound on the Homestead Road overpass when he failed to stay in a single lane. The vehicle struck a raised concrete curb on the right side, continued onto the sidewalk, and ultimately collided with a guardrail. The impact caused the car to become airborne and crash into a fence along the jersey wall before falling approximately 34 feet to a grassy area below.

Leblanc was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. Multiple airbags were deployed during the incident. No video surveillance footage was recovered during the initial on-scene investigation.

The Harris County Sheriff’s Office Vehicular Crimes Division is continuing to investigate the case.
