Driver Arrested for Intoxication Manslaughter Following Fatal Katy Freeway Crash
A suspect has been arrested following a fatal crash on the 10600 block of Katy Freeway (West Interstate Highway 10) around 1 p.m. on Monday, February 5. Identified as Jorge Clemente, 21, the suspect faces charges of intoxication manslaughter.
The deceased individual, a 34-year-old male, has yet to be officially identified pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
According to a witness, the incident occurred when the driver of a red Dodge Durango was observed traveling at a high speed westbound near the aforementioned location, weaving between lanes in the left emergency lane. The Durango then veered across from the emergency lane, colliding with a blue Suzuki V-Storm motorcycle also traveling westbound on the freeway. The impact caused the male rider to be ejected from the motorcycle and subsequently struck by the Durango.
Emergency services from the Houston Fire Department responded to the scene, where they pronounced the motorcyclist deceased.
Clemente, identified as the driver of the Durango, sustained minor injuries and was transported to an area hospital for treatment. Authorities noted signs of impairment in Clemente, leading to contact with the Harris County District Attorney’s Office, who subsequently charged and booked him into jail in connection to the crash.
