DPS Seizes Dozens of Guns Destined for Mexico During Operation Lone Star Stop

WESLACO, TX – Texas Department of Public Safety Special Agents intercepted a large shipment of firearms and accessories headed for Mexico during a vehicle inspection last week as part of Operation Lone Star.
On December 3, 2025, just after 9:30 a.m., DPS agents, working alongside U.S. Customs and Border Protection and Homeland Security Investigations, stopped a 2015 Chevy pickup at the Anzalduas Port of Entry in Mission, Hidalgo County. During the inspection, agents discovered 30 handguns—including a 5.7 caliber FN Herstal—60 magazines, and a speed loader hidden inside the vehicle’s spare tire. One of the firearms was later traced to a theft in Austin. Authorities say the weapons were destined for Guanajuato, Mexico.
The driver, 30-year-old Luis E. Torres Mujica of Guanajuato, Mexico, and passenger, 28-year-old Jesse Joe Camacho of McAllen, Texas, were arrested and charged with theft of property and firearm smuggling, a second-degree felony. Both are currently held in the Hidalgo County Jail.
The DPS Criminal Investigations Division continues to investigate the case, emphasizing the ongoing efforts to stop illegal firearms trafficking across the Texas-Mexico border.
