Deputy Wounded in Confrontation with Suspects in Humble Vehicle Break-ins

Early this morning, at around 1:49 am, a Harris County Sheriff’s Office deputy responded to a call regarding potential vehicle break-ins in the 2400 block of Cactus Bend Drive in Humble, near Atascocita and Wilson. Upon arrival, the deputy encountered two males fitting the suspects’ description, and as he approached, the individuals fled.
During the pursuit, a third male in the group brandished a pistol and fired at the deputy, striking him in the hand. Despite being wounded, the deputy returned fire, hitting at least one suspect multiple times. The two other suspects managed to escape, prompting an active search.
Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez stated that they believe the fleeing suspects are in their mid to late teens. The wounded suspect, identified as a 16-year-old Hispanic male, was transported to a hospital and is in fair condition. He faces charges of Aggravated Assault on a Public Servant and Burglary of a Motor Vehicle.
The injured deputy was taken to Memorial Hermann-Northeast Hospital and was released earlier this morning, December 23rd. Fortunately, he is expected to make a full recovery. The search for the remaining suspects is ongoing.
