Commercial Truck Pursuit Ends on Eastex Freeway; Driver Arrested on Assault Charges

HOUSTON, TX – An overnight incident involving a commercial truck striking multiple vehicles ended with a suspect in custody following a multi-agency pursuit, according to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies received reports of a driver in a commercial truck crashing into several vehicles. With assistance from the Texas Department of Public Safety and the Houston Police Department, deputies located the truck and attempted to stop it. A pursuit followed, during which the suspect allegedly tried to ram law enforcement vehicles and may have fired shots.
Out of caution, SWAT teams were deployed as the situation escalated. The pursuit came to an end on the Eastex Freeway near Little York Road after spike strips successfully deflated all of the truck’s tires. The driver stopped the vehicle and was taken into custody without further incident.
The suspect was identified as Omar Moreno, born November 6, 1972. He has been charged with three counts of Aggravated Assault and one count of Evading Arrest.
Authorities confirmed there were no reported injuries to members of the public or law enforcement. Sheriff Ed Gonzalez credited the coordinated overnight response by deputies and SWAT personnel for resolving the situation safely and thanked community members for their patience during the active police operation.
