Chemical Emergency Cleared in La Porte: Shelter-in-Place Lifted

The City of La Porte Fire Department, in coordination with Harris County Pollution Control, has confirmed that there are no detectable amounts of immediately hazardous products near or downwind of the Altivia facility. Following an earlier report of an active leak of phosgene from the Altivia facility located at 16th St. and Fairmont Parkway in La Porte this morning, the cautionary shelter-in-place for the parts of the city south of 16th Street and Fairmont Parkway has been lifted.

Emergency response teams from Altivia engaged in containment efforts, successfully mitigating the potential risks associated with the chemical release. The all-clear signal has been sounded for the chemical emergency, allowing residents to resume normal activities across the community.

Importantly, there was no impact on any La Porte Independent School District (LPISD) schools, as they were not within the shelter area.

Individuals with non-emergency medical concerns they believe are related to the incident can contact the Dispatch non-emergency line at 281-471-3810. For more information, follow the City of La Porte on social media at https://m.facebook.com/lpoem/events/ and LaPorteTX.gov/OEM.
