Case Against Austin Officer Conditionally Dismissed, Officer to Lead Use-of-Force Training

Austin, TX – The Travis County District Attorney’s Office announced on Friday, November 21, 2025, that the case against Austin Police Officer Karl Krycia will be conditionally dismissed. The decision comes as part of a joint effort between APD and the DA’s Office to strengthen public safety, accountability, and community trust.

Under the agreement, Officer Krycia has committed to conducting training for APD officers on Integrating Communications, Assessment, and Tactics (ICAT), a nationally recognized method used to reduce police use-of-force incidents.

“Our hearts go out to the DeSilva family for the loss of Maurice,” said Travis County District Attorney José Garza. “With this agreement, we are optimistic that Officer Krycia understands the importance of law enforcement agencies using training designed for Officer and community safety.”

APD Chief Lisa Davis added, “Officer Krycia’s commitment to ICAT training aligns with APD’s broader work to enhance safety for both officers and the community.”

The DA’s Office and APD hope this resolution demonstrates transparency, supports community healing, and advances safer policing practices in Austin.
