College Station Police Officers responded to a dispatch at Post Oak Mall for a follow-up on an investigation involving 49-year-old Lester Glenn Guyton Jr of Bryan, Texas, who was located inside the mall. Dispatch revealed that Guyton had seven active warrants for his arrest at the time officers arrived on the scene.
The warrants included two charges of Possession of a Controlled Substance, two charges of Credit Card or Debit Card Abuse, as well as charges of Evading Arrest/Detention, Resisting Arrest, Search or Transport, and Fail to ID Fugitive, with a total bond amount of $90,000.00.
Upon locating Guyton inside the mall, officers confirmed the warrants and informed him of his arrest. Guyton attempted to flee but was apprehended by both officers and bystanders. Despite resistance, officers managed to subdue Guyton by utilizing a Taser. In adherence to department policy, College Station Fire Department (CSFD) paramedics were summoned for a medical evaluation after the use of the Taser.
Amidst the incident, Guyton reported difficulty breathing, leading some mall patrons to express concern about a potential seizure. Emergency services were alerted, and officers placed Guyton in a “recovery” position until CSFD paramedics arrived.
During a subsequent search, officers discovered cocaine and marijuana in a bag Guyton was carrying. Following the incident, Guyton was transported to a local hospital for medical evaluation and will subsequently be taken to Brazos County Jail. In addition to the initial seven warrants, Guyton will face further charges of Evading Arrest, Resisting Arrest, Possession of a Controlled Substance (cocaine), and Possession of Marijuana.
Consistent with College Station Police Department policy, any use of force by officers will be thoroughly documented and reviewed to ensure compliance with established policies and procedures.
