Bomb Threat Prompts Lockdown and Evacuation at Leander High School

Leander, Texas – At approximately 1:25 p.m. on January 9, 2026, Leander High School received a bomb threat via a phone call, prompting an immediate response from the Leander Police Department and the Leander ISD Police Department.

Based on the information provided, the school was placed on lockdown. The caller claimed a bomb had been placed inside a vehicle in the school parking lot and further stated that an active shooter incident would follow after the device detonated.

A large, multi-agency response was initiated. Explosive detection K-9 teams from the Cedar Park Police Department and the Texas Department of Public Safety assisted with the search. While students remained safely secured during the lockdown, officers swept portions of the parking lot to allow for a controlled evacuation.

Students and staff were evacuated under the direction of Central Texas Regional SWAT and the Williamson County SWAT team to a designated waiting area. Williamson County deputies played a key role in managing the evacuation site and maintaining safety while the remainder of the campus and parking areas were thoroughly searched.

No suspicious devices were located, and once the campus was cleared, the scene was turned over to Leander ISD staff to begin reunification procedures.

No arrests have been made, and the investigation remains ongoing.

The Leander Police Department expressed gratitude to the Leander ISD Police Department, Cedar Park Police Department, Texas Department of Public Safety, Williamson County Sheriff’s Office, Central Texas Regional SWAT, Williamson County Constable Precinct 1, Williamson County EMS, and Leander Fire Department for their assistance in managing the complex response.

Officials also thanked parents and families for their patience and cooperation throughout the incident.
