Bacliff Man Arrested After Burglary, Shooting at Neighbor During Escape Attempt

On August 15, 2025, at approximately 12:09 p.m., Galveston County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a residential burglary alarm in the 4000 block of Bayshore Drive in Bacliff, Texas.
Before deputies arrived, the suspect fled the residence. A neighbor attempted to intervene, and the suspect fired a gun at the neighbor.
Multiple Sheriff’s Office units, along with Galveston County Precinct 1 Constable deputies, quickly established a perimeter. A Texas City Police Department K9 Officer assigned to the Sheriff’s Office Crime Reduction Unit tracked the suspect to a nearby house, where he attempted to evade arrest again but was taken into custody.
The suspect was identified as Diondre Ruffins, 22. Deputies recovered a handgun matching the caliber used in the assault and items stolen from the residence. The firearm was confirmed to have been stolen in a recent vehicle burglary in Bacliff.
During interviews, Ruffins admitted to the burglary, shooting at the neighbor with intent to kill or cause serious injury, and stealing the firearm used.
After consultation with the Galveston County District Attorney’s Office, Ruffins was charged with Burglary of Habitation, Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, and Theft of a Firearm. His total bond was set at $140,000.
