Arrest made in 2020 northwest Houston shooting after five-year investigation

HOUSTON, TX – Houston police have arrested a suspect in the fatal shooting of a man at an apartment complex in northwest Houston more than five years after the crime.
Chandler Lusk, 25, is charged with murder in the 178th Criminal District Court in connection with the December 3, 2020 shooting at the Coppertree Village Apartments, located at 1415 West Gulf Bank Road. The victim was identified as 24-year-old Tyrome Ervin.
At about 6:55 p.m. on the night of the shooting, Houston Police Department officers responded to reports of gunfire at the apartment complex. When officers arrived, they found Houston Fire Department paramedics providing aid to Ervin, who had been shot. Investigators determined that an unknown suspect drove by in a tan Buick sedan and fired multiple shots, striking Ervin.
Despite early investigative efforts, the case remained unsolved for years. Continued follow-up by detectives eventually led to new information identifying Lusk as the suspected shooter.
Lusk is currently in the custody of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice on unrelated charges. Court records show he has two prior felony convictions. On March 1, 2024, he was convicted of aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon stemming from a July 2018 incident. He was later convicted on July 17, 2024, of aggravated assault causing bodily injury related to an April 2024 case.
Houston police have not released whether the 2020 shooting was random or targeted.
