Argument Leads to Fatal Shooting at Northshore  Motel; Suspect in Custody

Houston police have arrested 63-year-old Douglas Tyrone Hicks and charged him with murder in connection with the fatal shooting of a 29-year-old man at a motel located at 11999 East Freeway early Saturday morning.

Officers responded to a shooting call at the motel at approximately 1:30 a.m. on May 11th and discovered the victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Houston Fire Department paramedics pronounced the man deceased at the scene.

While officers were on location, Douglas Tyrone Hicks approached them and stated that he was the shooter.

Witnesses told investigators that Hicks and the victim had been involved in a verbal argument earlier in the evening. The victim subsequently left the location but encountered Hicks in the parking lot upon his return. The argument reportedly resumed, at which point Hicks allegedly pulled out a gun and shot the victim.

After consulting with the Harris County District Attorney’s Office, a charge of murder was accepted against Hicks, and he was subsequently booked into the Harris County Jail. The identity of the deceased 29-year-old male is pending notification to his family members by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
