Agreement Reached to Address Disability Access Issues at Austin Hilton Garden Inn

The United States has reached an agreement with the Hilton Garden Inn Austin University Capitol District to address alleged violations of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). The agreement aims to ensure equal service for customers with disabilities.

The agreement comes after the Department of Justice received a complaint regarding the hotel’s failure to provide appropriate accommodations to a guest with a disability. The complaint alleged that despite reserving an accessible room, the hotel provided a standard room lacking necessary accommodations, leaving the guest without a usable bathroom during their stay.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Texas investigated the complaint, emphasizing that the ADA mandates hotels to provide access to individuals with disabilities, including honoring reservations and offering fully accessible rooms.

U.S. Attorney Jaime Esparza for the Western District of Texas emphasized the importance of ensuring that people with disabilities have access to essential accommodations while traveling. The ADA guarantees equal access to hotel rooms and facilities for travelers with disabilities, Esparza stated.
