El Paso County Man Arrested After Cockfighting Investigation Leads to Raid

A cockfighting investigation in El Paso County led to the arrest of a 60-year-old man after deputies discovered dead roosters and paraphernalia associated with illegal animal fighting.
On March 2, 2025, at approximately 4:27 PM, deputies from the Peter J. Herrera Patrol Station and the Animal Welfare Unit responded to a complaint regarding possible cockfighting in the 15600 block of North Loop Drive. Upon arrival, law enforcement discovered several deceased roosters and equipment commonly used in cockfighting.
Detectives from the Peter J. Herrera Patrol Station and East Montana Patrol Station Criminal Investigations Division (CID), along with the Major Crimes Unit and Crime Scene Unit, were called to assist. A search warrant was executed, leading to the collection of cockfighting paraphernalia and the rescue of 16 roosters and 27 hens, which were relocated to City Animal Services.
Detectives identified Isidoro Martinez-Amparan, 60, as the organizer of the illegal cockfighting event. Martinez Amparan was arrested and booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility on a Cockfighting charge, with his bond set at $10,000.
Authorities remind the public that organizing, participating in, or even spectating a cockfight is illegal under Texas law. Sheriff Oscar Ugarte encourages residents to report any signs of animal cruelty to law enforcement immediately.
