Arlington Business Owner Shoots Employee

On Tuesday, August 15, 2023, at approximately 2:14 p.m., the Arlington Police Department received a 911 call from the owner of a business in the 900 block of W. Division Street requesting assistance with an employee he had just terminated who was refusing to leave the store. As officers were en route, the department received reports that shots were fired at the location.

When officers arrived on scene, they located the employee, a 46-year-old man, lying unresponsive inside the business with an apparent gunshot wound. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The owner of the business, 42-year-old Javier Arredondo, remained on scene.

Through the course of their investigation, officers learned Mr. Arredondo and the employee were engaged in a tense verbal exchange following the employee’s firing. Then, minutes after placing the 911 call, Mr. Arredondo pulled out a handgun and fired multiple shots at the employee, striking him.

There was no one else inside the business at the time of the shooting. Mr. Arredondo had asked his other employees to leave the building while the exchange was ongoing.

Investigators found no weapons on the deceased employee and it does not appear he attempted to physically assault Mr. Arredondo.

After consulting with the Tarrant County District Attorney’s Office, officers arrested Mr. Arredondo and booked him into the Arlington City Jail on one count of Murder.

The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office will identify the deceased once next of kin have been notified.
