On February 12, 2025, at approximately 5:50 p.m., officers with the Big Spring Police Department responded to a report of a gunshot victim at the intersection of 14th and Goliad.

Upon arrival, officers found 38-year-old Ricky Flores Mier, a Hispanic male, deceased inside a white GMC Yukon. A second victim, a 34-year-old Hispanic male who was also inside the Yukon, was transported to Scenic Mountain Medical Center before being flown to UMC Lubbock for further treatment. Authorities stated he is expected to recover.

Witnesses reported that a small black car had fired shots at the GMC Yukon before fleeing the scene. Investigators with the Big Spring Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division located a vehicle matching the description in the 600 block of East 17th Street. A search warrant was executed on the vehicle and residence, leading to the arrest of 39-year-old Tony Magallanes, a Hispanic male.

Magallanes has been charged with the murder of Ricky Flores Mier and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in connection with the shooting of the second victim. Authorities believe the incident was the result of road rage and that the individuals involved were not known to each other.

The investigation remains ongoing.
