San Angelo Man Sentenced to 30 Months for Federal Gun Crime After Firing Shots at Party

A man who fired shots outside a residence in San Angelo has been sentenced to 30 months in prison for a federal gun crime, announced Acting U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Texas Chad Meacham.
Edgar Eduardo Gamez-Rodriguez, 22, a citizen of Mexico, was indicted in September 2024 and pleaded guilty in October 2024 to illegal alien in possession of a firearm. He was sentenced on Thursday by U.S. District Judge James Wesley Hendrix.
The incident occurred at approximately 5:05 a.m. on October 1, 2023, when law enforcement responded to a “shots fired” call outside a home in San Angelo. Witnesses at the scene, who were attending a party, reported that Gamez-Rodriguez fired several rounds from a handgun into the air.
A sheriff’s office report revealed that Gamez-Rodriguez, intoxicated and angry after having his keys taken away, pointed his firearm at two musicians hired for the event. He then entered his vehicle and fired four to six shots into the air before driving off. Gamez-Rodriguez later allegedly told a partygoer he “knows people” who could “shoot up” the house.
Law enforcement later executed a search warrant at Gamez-Rodriguez’s residence, where they recovered a Taurus 9mm semi-automatic handgun and two magazines. Authorities also found an employment contract with his signature and the keys to his vehicle in the drawer where the gun and ammunition were stored. His Facebook profile photo displayed him holding a handgun.
Further investigation confirmed that Gamez-Rodriguez was a Mexican citizen who had never been authorized to remain in the U.S. and had been previously deported to Mexico. Following his sentence, Gamez-Rodriguez will face deportation proceedings once again.
The investigation was conducted by Homeland Security Investigation’s Dallas Field Office, the Tom Green County Sheriff’s Office, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, & Explosives. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Jeff Haag.
