Travis County Jury Convicts Yong Yoon Kim of Double Murder, Sentences Him to 110 Years

On Friday, May 24, 2024, a Travis County jury found Yong Yoon Kim, 33, guilty of two counts of Murder. The trial began on Monday, May 20, 2024, with jury selection and testimony starting the next day. After deliberating on Friday, May 24, 2024, the jury returned with a verdict of guilty on both counts of Murder.

Following the verdict, on Wednesday, May 29, 2024, the jury sentenced Mr. Kim to 50 years for murder count one and 60 years for murder count two, with both sentences to be served concurrently at the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.

Yong Yoon Kim was arrested by the Austin Police Department on January 23, 2022, and initially charged with Capital Murder in connection with the deaths of Christopher Rivers, 38, and Nathan Limoge, 28. He was later reindicted on two counts of Murder on August 15, 2023, leading up to his trial.

This case had previously gone to trial in September 2023, resulting in a hung jury. Assistant District Attorneys Kiera Kilday and Angie Creasy led the prosecution team, supported by investigators Adam Johnson, Mike Henderson, and Cyril Friday, victim counselor Raquel Pompey, paralegal Diane Nanez, and legal secretary Rebecca Labeth. Austin Police Department Homicide Detectives Shelly Holmstrom and Chris Anderson investigated the case.

Travis County District Attorney José Garza expressed gratitude to the prosecution team and law enforcement partners for their efforts in seeking justice for the victims.
