An incident unfolded late in the evening on August 27, 2023, as Dallas Police responded to what was initially reported as a major accident in the 3700 block of Inwood Road, between Lemmon Ave and W Mockingbird Ln.

Upon arriving at the scene, the Dallas Police Traffic Unit began investigating the incident, but as they examined the physical evidence, it became apparent that the situation was not a mere crash. Instead, the evidence pointed towards a shooting having taken place.

The Homicide Unit swiftly joined the investigation and assumed control of the case. Preliminary findings revealed that 29-year-old Chapeera Lee, one of the drivers involved, lost her life at the scene. The other driver, identified as 32-year-old Cortez Nute, sustained minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital by Dallas Fire-Rescue.
