Suspect Arrested in Fatal Crash in Alief Area, Charged with Intoxication Manslaughter
Alexander Leiva, 30, has been arrested in connection with a fatal crash that occurred at 9200 South Dairy Ashford Road in the Alief area around 8:20 p.m. on Sunday (February 11). Leiva faces charges of intoxication manslaughter and remains hospitalized.
The victim, identified as Iris Rodriguez, 71, was fatally injured in the incident.
According to authorities, the crash involved a black Ford F-150 pickup truck traveling eastbound on Bissonnet Street. As the Ford approached the intersection of South Dairy Ashford, it ran a red light and collided with a silver Nissan Juke that was making a left turn from South Dairy Ashford onto Bissonnet. The impact caused the Nissan to veer over the grassy median and strike a gray Honda CRV.
The driver of the Nissan was pronounced deceased after being transported by Houston Fire Department paramedics. Leiva, the driver of the Ford pickup truck, along with his 19-year-old passenger, sustained minor injuries and were also transported to a local hospital. The occupants of the Honda, a 19-year-old female driver and a male passenger of the same age, suffered non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to an area hospital for treatment.
Authorities determined that Leiva was impaired at the time of the crash and subsequently charged him for his role in the incident.
