Midland Couple Sentenced to a Combined 56 Years for Meth Trafficking and Firearm Charges
A Midland man and woman have been handed a combined sentence of 56 years in federal court for methamphetamine trafficking and firearm charges.
Nikky Nicole Lujan, 37, and Raul Gonzalez, 38, were found guilty of possessing and distributing over 11 kilograms of methamphetamine in and around Midland, according to court documents. Gonzalez faced additional charges for possessing a firearm in connection with a drug trafficking crime. In May 2023, Midland police officers executed a search warrant at Gonzalez’s residence, uncovering methamphetamine, firearms, body armor, and thousands of dollars in currency.
Both Lujan and Gonzalez pleaded guilty to multiple counts on September 20, 2023. Lujan received a sentence of 340 months, slightly over 28 years, while Gonzalez was sentenced to 334 months, just under 28 years.
U.S. Attorney Jaime Esparza for the Western District of Texas expressed gratitude for the local law enforcement’s efforts in disrupting the drug trafficking operations of a significant meth supply chain in the Permian Basin. He warned that severe sentences like these should serve as a deterrent to drug traffickers, emphasizing that vigorous prosecution awaits those who operate in the district.
Midland Police Chief Seth Herman commended the collaboration between local law enforcement and federal partners. He highlighted the Midland Division Office’s unwavering dedication to safeguarding citizens throughout the Permian Basin. The Midland Police Department led the investigation in this case.
