Houston Police Respond to Assault Call, Suspect Fires Shots at Officers: Arrest Made After Standoff
Juan Carlos Serrano-Morales

On November 18, 2023, Houston Police officers responded to an assault call at a residence located at 7702 Riptide Drive (Alief) around 8:35 pm. Upon their arrival and after identifying themselves, the suspect, later identified as 39-year-old Juan Carlos Serrano Morales, fired shots at the officers and refused to exit the residence. The officers, who were unharmed and did not return fire, promptly established a perimeter and requested assistance from HPD SWAT personnel.

During the incident, Serrano Morales allowed a 37-year-old female and her two children to leave the residence. The woman had sustained injuries from an assault and was transported to a nearby hospital, where she received treatment and was subsequently released. Fortunately, the children were unharmed.

Following negotiations, Serrano Morales surrendered to the police without further incident. He was subsequently arrested and is now facing charges, including four counts of assault of a peace officer in the 174th State District Court and assault of a family member in Harris County Criminal Court #11.
