HARRIS COUNTY, Texas – A 44-year-old man was arrested Tuesday after authorities say a road rage dispute escalated into a confrontation involving a machete in the Bammel area.

Deputies with Harris County Precinct 4 Constable Mark Herman’s Office responded Sept. 29 to the 2200 block of FM 1960 Road West following a report of a road rage incident.

When deputies arrived, they encountered a man who was reportedly brandishing a machete. Deputies detained him and identified him as Jose Castelan.

Investigators said the confrontation began after Castelan became angry with a truck driver who reportedly ran a red light and turned in front of his vehicle.

Castelan then got out of his vehicle and charged toward the truck driver while armed with the machete, according to the Constable’s Office.

Deputies took Castelan into custody without further incident. No injuries were reported in the information released by authorities.

Castelan was booked into the Harris County Jail on a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. His bond was set at $50,000 in the 496th District Court.
