9-Year-Old Injured by Gunfire During Fourth of July Celebration in Channelview

HANNELVIEW, Texas. A 9-year-old child is expected to recover after being struck by gunfire during a Fourth of July celebration in Channelview, according to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies responded at approximately 9:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 4, to the 1500 block of Park Drive after receiving reports of a shooting.

When deputies arrived, they found the child suffering from a gunshot wound sustained while celebrating the holiday with family.

Detectives with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office Violent Offenders Unit responded to the scene shortly after 10 p.m. to investigate.

According to investigators, the child’s parents told detectives they believed the shooting was the result of celebratory gunfire. Authorities said detectives are continuing to investigate all circumstances surrounding the incident.

The child was transported to a local hospital in stable condition, where the victim was treated and later released. Investigators said the child is expected to make a full recovery.

The investigation remains ongoing.
