Authorities Search for Driver After Fatal Hit-and-Run Near Channelview

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas — Investigators are searching for the driver of a pickup truck involved in a fatal hit-and-run crash near Channelview after a man’s body was discovered in a roadside ditch Saturday afternoon.

According to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office Vehicular Crimes Division, the victim was found at approximately 12:50 p.m. on June 27 by a landscaping worker in the 14900 block of Beaumont Highway.

Investigators recovered surveillance video from the area that showed the victim, an unidentified man, walking eastbound in the second traffic lane at approximately 3:39 a.m.

Seconds later, a dark-colored Ford F-150 struck the man from behind, throwing him into a ditch on the south side of the roadway.

Authorities said the driver of the pickup did not stop and continued eastbound on Beaumont Highway.

Channelview Medic 15 responded to the scene and pronounced the man dead at 12:58 p.m.

The victim has not yet been identified.

The Harris County Sheriff’s Office Vehicular Crimes Division is continuing to investigate the fatal hit-and-run and is seeking information about the dark-colored Ford F-150 involved in the crash.
