Houston Woman Charged With Murder in Fatal Stabbing at Sunnyside Apartment Complex

HOUSTON, Texas — A 23-year-old woman has been charged with murder in connection with the fatal stabbing of a man at an apartment complex in Houston’s Sunnyside area, according to the Houston Police Department.
Ariyanna Cooper was arrested and charged with murder in the 177th State District Court. The victim was identified as 23-year-old Travis Powell.
The stabbing occurred at approximately 2:25 a.m. on June 5 at the Wesley Square Apartments, located at 7402 Calhoun Road.
Houston Police Department patrol officers responded to a call reporting an incident at the apartment complex and arrived to find Houston Fire Department paramedics treating a man who had suffered a stab wound.
Powell was transported to a nearby hospital, where he later died from his injuries, according to police.
The investigation was led by HPD Homicide Division Sergeants L. Kauffman and C. Lamont and Detectives C. Flora and M. Perez.
Investigators identified Cooper as the suspect during the course of the investigation. She was later taken into custody, interviewed by homicide detectives and formally charged with murder for her alleged role in the incident.
Police have not released additional details regarding the circumstances that led to the stabbing.
The investigation remains ongoing.
