Baytown Police Investigating Apparent Murder-Suicide That Left Two Dead

BAYTOWN, Texas – Baytown police are investigating an apparent murder-suicide after a man and woman were found dead inside a residence Friday afternoon.

According to the Baytown Police Department, officers responded at approximately 2 p.m. on June 5, 2026, to a home in the 200 block of Southwood Circle after a third party reported being contacted by a man at the residence.

Police said the man told the caller that he had shot and killed his wife and was contemplating suicide.

When officers arrived, they found a woman, believed to be about 30 years old, near the front door suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.

Officers immediately began life-saving measures, but the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

A man, believed to be approximately 50 years old, was later located inside the residence with apparent gunshot injuries.

Officers also attempted life-saving measures on the man, but he was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Preliminary information indicates the man and woman were involved in a romantic relationship. Investigators said no other individuals were involved in the incident, and no additional injuries were reported.

Baytown Police Chief John Stringer expressed condolences to those affected by the tragedy and praised the responding officers.

“This is a tragic incident that has deeply impacted those involved and our community,” Stringer said. “I want to commend the officers who responded to this call for their professionalism, training, and immediate efforts to provide life-saving measures under extremely difficult circumstances.”

Stringer also encouraged individuals experiencing domestic violence, emotional distress, or other personal crises to seek help before situations escalate.

“We encourage anyone experiencing domestic violence, emotional distress, or a crisis situation to seek help and utilize available resources before circumstances reach a critical point,” he said.

Authorities believe the incident was isolated, but detectives continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the deaths.

The identities of the deceased have not been released.

The investigation remains ongoing.
