Houston Driver Charged After Fatal Motorcycle Crash on Westheimer Road

HOUSTON, Texas – A Houston man has been charged in connection with a fatal crash that claimed the life of a motorcyclist Friday night on Westheimer Road.
According to the Houston Police Department, 48-year-old Djamal Benamirouche has been charged with Criminally Negligent Homicide in the 228th Criminal District Court.
The crash occurred at approximately 11:55 p.m. on May 29 in the 7900 block of Westheimer Road.
Investigators said a silver Lexus ES350 and a gray Kawasaki ZX motorcycle were traveling eastbound on Westheimer in adjacent lanes when the collision occurred.
According to the HPD Vehicular Crimes Division, the driver of the Lexus abruptly changed lanes multiple times while attempting to move into the far lane to make a U-turn.
Police said the Lexus then struck the motorcycle, causing the rider to be ejected from the bike.
The 39-year-old motorcyclist was transported to a local hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
The victim’s identity has not been released pending notification of family members by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
Authorities said Benamirouche remained at the scene following the crash and cooperated with investigators.
Following the investigation, he was arrested and charged with Criminally Negligent Homicide.
The investigation remains ongoing.
