Woman Killed, Man Dead After Apartment Breezeway Shooting in North Harris County

SPRING, Texas – The Harris County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a deadly shooting early Sunday morning at an apartment complex in north Harris County that left two people dead and resulted in criminal charges against one man.
Deputies with the Harris County Precinct 4 Constable’s Office responded around 5:30 a.m. May 24 to an in-progress call at an apartment complex in the 2900 block of FM 2920.
When deputies arrived, they found a 22-year-old man and a 34-year-old woman unresponsive on a second-floor breezeway stairway, both suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.
Authorities said deputies immediately began lifesaving measures until EMS personnel arrived and pronounced both victims dead at the scene.
Investigators identified the female victim as 34-year-old Estelle Camarillo. The deceased male was identified as Junior Ruiz.
Deputies detained 32-year-old Adrian Abreu at the scene after he told investigators he fired his weapon at the male victim following a physical altercation, striking both victims, according to authorities.
Homicide detectives and crime scene investigators with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office responded to continue the investigation.
After presenting evidence to the Harris County District Attorney’s Office, detectives charged Abreu with manslaughter and felon in possession of a firearm in connection with Camarillo’s death.
Authorities said the investigation into the male victim’s shooting will be referred to a Harris County grand jury.
Detectives determined the shooting stemmed from a confrontation after Camarillo and Abreu, who had arrived together, attempted to assist a friend reportedly involved in a domestic violence incident.
Abreu remains booked in the Harris County Jail as the investigation continues.
