Lubbock Police Deputy Chief Arrested After Internal Investigation

In a recent development, the Metropolitan Special Crimes Unit apprehended Lubbock Police Department Deputy Chief Leath McClure on October 19, 2023, following an ongoing criminal investigation.

The Lubbock Police Department was made aware of criminal allegations against Deputy Chief McClure on October 4th. In response, LPD Interim Police Chief Greg Rushin authorized a thorough investigation by the Metropolitan Special Crimes Unit into the allegations, subsequently placing Deputy Chief McClure on paid administrative leave on the same day. McClure has been with the LPD since February 2005.

On the afternoon of October 19th, Deputy Chief McClure was taken into custody shortly after 2:00 pm. The arrest was carried out without any incident, and he was subsequently transported to the Lubbock County Detention Center. Deputy Chief McClure faces serious charges, including Continuous Violence Against the Family and two counts of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon. As of now, he is being held on a $500,000 bond.
