AUSTIN, Texas — Two individuals listed among Texas’ 10 Most Wanted fugitives are back in custody following separate arrests in Houston and Waco, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS).

Carl James Hegert, 40, a Texas 10 Most Wanted Sex Offender, was arrested Feb. 18 at an apartment complex in Houston. DPS Criminal Investigations Division Special Agents, Texas Highway Patrol troopers assigned to the Texas Anti-Gang Violent Crimes Unit, and members of the U.S. Marshals Gulf Coast Violent Offenders Fugitive Task Force worked together to locate and apprehend him.

Authorities said Hegert has an extensive criminal history dating back to 2006, including convictions for sexual assault of a child, theft of a firearm, assault causing bodily injury to a family member, failure to register as a sex offender, and manufacture or delivery of a controlled substance. He was released from the Texas Department of Criminal Justice in January 2025.

Hegert had been wanted since October 2025 after a warrant was issued in Waller County for larceny, and he was also sought in San Jacinto County for failure to comply with sex offender registration requirements.

In a separate case, Brien Keith Coleman, 39, another Texas 10 Most Wanted Fugitive, was taken into custody Feb. 23 following a traffic stop in Waco. DPS Special Agents and members of the U.S. Marshals Lone Star Fugitive Task Force coordinated with Texas Highway Patrol troopers to conduct the stop.

Coleman was previously arrested in September 2023 by the McLennan County Sheriff’s Office for indecency with a child by sexual contact. Authorities said he bonded out of jail after a December 2025 arrest for violating a bond or protective order but became a fugitive later that month when a new warrant was issued for the same charge.

Officials noted that Crime Stoppers rewards will not be paid in either arrest.

Both investigations remain under the jurisdiction of the respective local authorities.
