Harris County Assistant District Attorney Arrested After Assault at Child’s Birthday Party

ANORAMA VILLAGE, Texas — A Harris County assistant district attorney was arrested Sunday evening following an alleged assault during a child’s birthday party in Montgomery County, according to police. The Harris County District Attorney’s Office says that the suspect has been fired.
On February 22, 2026, at approximately 5 p.m., an officer with the Panorama Village Police Department responded to a report of a physical disturbance at a residence inside the city limits. The call was initially relayed through the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office.
Dispatch advised officers that a man, later identified as 32-year-old Gabriel Kabak, and a woman were involved in a physical altercation during a birthday party and that the man was reportedly intoxicated and pushing people at the gathering.
Officers Respond to Disturbance
When officers arrived, along with a Texas Parks and Wildlife game warden, they observed party guests separating Kabak from the woman and several children at the scene.
Investigators conducted interviews and determined the confrontation began as a verbal argument after the woman expressed concern about Kabak allegedly attempting to drive while intoxicated.
According to the investigation, the argument escalated into a physical confrontation. The woman told officers Kabak pushed her, forced her against the side of the residence, and grabbed her by the throat, causing pain and temporarily restricting her ability to breathe.
Arrest and Charge
Police said Kabak made several unsolicited statements to officers about his position as an assistant district attorney with the Harris County District Attorney’s Office while they were investigating.
Following the investigation, officers arrested Kabak on a charge of Assault Family Violence – Strangulation, a felony offense.
He was transported to the Montgomery County Jail without incident. A magistrate set his bond at $35,000.
Authorities say the case remains under active investigation, and no additional information has been released.
